MPAA’S “EYES & EARS” CAMPAIGN HELPS NEW YORK CITY FIGHT FILM PIRACY

In the last issue of Screen Actor we reported on the three pronged campaign spearheaded by Mayor Bloomberg to combat film piracy in New York City.

Following the passage of tougher laws against camcorder piracy, and the MPAA’s campaign created with Radical Media, featuring unique television spots with a corresponding series of print advertisements asking all New Yorkers to stop film piracy with the slogan “Get the Real Picture: Don’t Buy Illegal DVDs Off the Street,” the city is ready to step up enforcement of these laws; and they need your help.

This summer the MPAA launched its “Eyes & Ears” campaign, a grassroots campaign to get entertainment industry stakeholders to help report illegal street vending of bootlegged DVD’s and CD’s.

SAG members can come to the Guild office to get an MPAA “Eye’s & Ears” contact wallet card. Members who observe illegal street vending may call the MPAA/RIAA 24-hour anti-piracy hotline toll free at (800) NO-COPYS (662-6797) and report the location, time and a brief description of the activity.

For safety reasons the MPAA asks that you “never put yourself at risk by approaching the vendor and to never use physical force to stop the activity or to detain the suspect.” Call the number and let the proper law enforcement officials handle the situation.

With your help we can wipe out film piracy in New York City.
