The Screen Actors Guild and the University of Hawaii Academy of Creative Media have joined together to provide another great way for SAG members to hone their craft through Table Readings. The readings afford members the opportunity to read new scripts and act in roles in a “cold reading” situation. For screenwriters, it is a chance to hear their work read by professional actors. Additionally, should these scenes at some point go before the camera, actors have another opportunity to do what they love – perform well written material on-camera.

Senator John Arthur Smith, the Chair of both the Finance & Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committees, introduced SB 235 yesterday. The bill calls for a $2 million cap per project on the film incentive rebates. This would apply to all future TV/Theatrical productions shooting in the state. If passed, this would clearly injure the NM film industry.

Helping with Film & Media Day is now more important than ever. It looks like this bill will be heard on Friday, February 5 at 1:30 p.m. and we’ll be rallying the troops prior to the reading of the bill.
